Alleged locker room looter sought

Sarnia police are looking for a suspect in a series of thefts from arena locker rooms.

Arrest warrants are out for 31-year-old Clinton Scott Hopkins.

Cst. John Sottosanti said last Thursday at around 9:30 p.m., police said a number of wallets and cell phones were taken from a dressing room at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

Some of the stolen items were later found on Quinn Drive and Scott Road.

Surveillance cameras were able to catch images of a suspect in that incident, and another that occurred on November 16.

Credit cards and a set of car keys were taken from a change room at Clearwater Arena, and the thief fled by stealing the vehicle to which the keys belonged.

Later that night police said a stolen credit card was used to make purchases at two locations, and the vehicle was found.

Hopkins faces eight counts of theft under $5,000, theft of a motor vehicle, three counts of using a stolen credit card, possession of property obtained by crime, and three counts of failing to comply with recognizance.

Police said there are also warrants from other jurisdictions.

Cst. Sottosanti said the investigation continues in the hopes of identifying two possible suspects that may have assisted in the crime.

"We would also like to remind the public that when attending these facilities to please either lock the change room or avoid bringing in valuables to prevent the headaches that thieves create," said Sottosanti.

Anyone with information is asked to the Sarnia Police Service at 519-344-8861 or Sarnia-Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
