Need for Northern scholarships

Northern Collegiate is appealing to the public to help students with their post secondary education costs.

Chair of the 4Northern Foundation Rob Tuer says scholarship money has dried up over the past few years, with many donors passing away.

He said scholarships are more critical now than ever before.

"They're also pretty minimal, a lot of the amounts we've given out in the past were $50 or $75," said Tuer. "We're really trying to give more along the lines of $500 to $600 per student. That's what we've been trying to do for the past number of years. As that money is drying up, we need to let the community know that if they can give back to the high school they went to then it's more than greatly appreciated."

Tuer encourages people to sign up for a spot on the donor wall at the school's entrance.

He said they've been able to give about $2,500 to students in the past year but would like to see that number increase.
