12 days of fire safety

Sarnia Fire and Rescue is getting in the holiday spirit once again this year with their 12 Days of Fire Safety initiative.

Alongside CHOK, Sarnia Fire and Rescue will be awarding prize packs to radio listeners who call in with the right fire safety tip for the question of the day.

The prize packs include household and auto items labelled with helpful safety reminders.

Fire Life Safety Educator Mike Otis said they'll be promoting safety tips, like how a smoke or CO alarm may just save your life one day.

"Obviously having working carbon monoxide alarms adjacent to all your sleeping areas, so if all your bedrooms are off of one hallway, you'll need a working CO alarm in that hallway," said Otis. "It's the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in North America, 500 people a year still die from carbon monoxide poisoning."

The initiative runs weekdays starting Thursday up until December 21.
