Police urge holiday shoppers to guard against theft

Sarnia police are again reminding us to lock our vehicles while out shopping over the holidays. Cst. John Sottosanti said thieves are lurking out there looking for opportunities.

"If you are out shopping and you have purchased a number of gifts and you've placed them back in your car, either place them in the truck of the vehicle so that they're out of sight, or cover them up the best they can so they don't look too suspicious. That way we can avoid a lot of the problems," said Sottosanti. "But the simplest thing to do is to lock your vehicle. Don't leave your wallet, your valuables, or even change in plain view. People like to take advantage of that."

City police investigated 11 break and enters and eight thefts on the weekend, over half of which were from vehicles.
