Sarnia's age friendly plan advancing

The City of Sarnia will provide an update on its ongoing efforts to better serve the older population.

The 2018 age-friendly community summit is being held Wednesday.

Co-ordinator Laura Greaves said they're trying to look at ways to benefit the entire community.

"We consider older to be anyone who is 55 plus," said Greaves. "But, so many times when we're making modifications or creating anything that is beneficial to our older population, it helps younger people as well. So, anytime we're making curbs easier for wheelchairs to cross it's also great for parents who are pushing strollers."

Sarnia's population is about five years older than the national and provincial average.

The summit is scheduled for November 21 from 9:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Lambton College Event Centre.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Ellen Ryan from McMaster University.
