An impressive season for the Northern Vikings senior football team came to an end Wednesday afternoon.

The Vikings fell to the Windsor Holy Names Knights 29-10 in the SWOSSAA AAA final from Northern.

It was the Vikings first loss of the season-- they finished with a record of 8-1.

Head coach Craig Davies said despite the loss, his team left everything out on the field.

"We played against a team that was better than us, but I would say our kids played awesome. I'm so proud of them, they represented our school and our city well, and like I said, it's the proudest I could be of these guys. They did a great job."

The Vikings beat advanced to the SWOSSAA final after beating Chatham-Kent 23-3 in the LKSSAA championship game.

Davies said his team continued to improve as the year went on.

"We kind of had to find our identity early in the season, and once we sat in there and we had guys doing their thing and bringing in a team-type of atmosphere, we rolled and it ended up being a great season."

The 29 points scored by the Knights were the most points the Vikings defence allowed in any game this season. Previously, they hadn't allowed any team to score more than 15 points.

Holy Names will head to Ottawa to face the Huron Heights Warriors November 27 at 4 p.m. in the OFSAA Northern Bowl.
