Kings down Legionnaires in double OT

The Komoka Kings (8-11-0-0) beat the Sarnia Legionnaires (8-6-0-2) 5-4 in double overtime on Thursday night in GOJHL hockey action at the Brock St. Barn.

Kurt Watson led the way for the Kings with a hat-trick, including the game winner.

Blake Butler scored a pair of goals for the Legionnaires, Ben Schoch and Alec DeKoning added singles, and William Redick dished out two assists.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first period before the Legionnaires scored two second period goals to jump out to a 3-1 lead. Sarnia led 3-2 after two periods. Watson tied the game 3-3 at 16:33 of the third frame, but Butler put Sarnia up 4-3 just 30 seconds later. Joel Mazzilli tied the contest 4-4 with just 1:30 remaining in regulation.

After a scoreless first overtime, the Legionnaires took a penalty for too many men on the ice, and the Kings capitalized on the powerplay opportunity to win the game.

The Legionnaires scored twice on six powerplay chances, and killed off four of five penalties.

Sarnia goalie Jakob Knowles made 32 saves on 37 shots faced, and Owen Say stopped 30 of 34 shots in the Komoka net.

The Legionnaires return to the ice on November 15 at home to the St. Thomas Stars.
