Sarnia gymnastics coach pleads not guilty

Former gymnastics coach Dave Brubaker has pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting a teenage gymnast. The trial for the former director of the Bluewater Gymnastics Club got underway at the Sarnia courthouse Tuesday morning and could continue through much of the week. Brubaker, 55, was charged last December with one count of invitation to sexual touching, and three counts each of sexual interference, sexual exploitation, and sexual assault.

The charges cover the period from 2000 to 2007 and relate to a girl, who was under 16 years of age, during part of that time. The former women’s national team director for Gymnastics Canada helped train the country's top gymnasts for the Olympic Games and the world championships. He also was the country's head gymnastics coach at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
