SIU ends probe into man's fall from a moving vehicle

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has terminated an investigation into an incident last month where an 18-year-old man was injured while being pursued by OPP.

On Sunday, September 2nd around 10:30 p.m officers received a complaint about an erratic driver in Lambton Shores.

Lambton OPP located a blue 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche pick-up truck that was driving dangerously along Army Camp Road while passengers were riding on the vehicle’s roof.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled the area which resulted in one of the passengers being thrown from the roof and suffering a leg injury.

SIU investigators attempted to speak with the man, but he refused to give a statement or cooperate with the investigation.

The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Tony Loparco says it appears that police conduct had nothing to do with the man's injury.

"Further, the man will not meet with the SIU to provide a statement or otherwise assist the investigation, said Loparco. "As such, I have terminated the investigation into this incident."

The Special Investigations Unit is a civilian agency that investigates incidents involving police where there has been death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
