Legionnaires fall to first place Nationals

The Sarnia Legionnaires (6-5-0-1) dropped a hard-fought 5-3 decision at the hands of the first-place London Nationals (10-0-0-1) in GOJHL hockey action Thursday night at the Brock St. Barn.

Alec DeKoning scored twice for the Legionnaires, while William Redick added a goal and Clark Allair dished out two assists.

The Legionnaires led 1-0 after the first period, and extended the lead to 2-0 late in the second. London's Cal Davis scored a pair of quick goals late in the second to tie the contest at 2-2 heading into the third.

The Nationals made it a 4-2 hockey game with a couple of third period goals, including Davis scoring his third of the game. DeKoning made it close, but London capped the 5-3 win late with an empty net goal.

Jakob Knowles made 33 saves on 37 shots in the Legionnaires net, while Nationals goalie Zachary Springer turned aside 31 of 34 shots faced.

The Legionnaires' next game isn't until Thursday, November 1 at home to the St. Thomas Stars.
