Lambton Lions christen new gym with double header Thursday night

The Lambton Lions men's and women's basketball season gets underway October 18 when the Lions host Conestoga in their brand new athletic centre.

Men's Coach James Grant said they have eight new faces in the line-up while 14 of 16 are first or second-year players.

"We're looking for Jason Watts, a fourth-year forward out of Detroit, to be our double-double guy and give us a shot to win some games early in the season and we're just going to get better and better as our first and second-year guys get some experience," said Grant. "We have a talented team and it's pretty exciting."

The Lions, who are coming off a 13-7 OCAA campaign last year, will be playing in a brand new gym that seats 1,200.

The men tip of at 8 p.m. with the women playing the Condors at 6 p.m.

There are six Lady Lions returning from last year including leading scorer Madisyn Campbell and co-defensive player of the year Daylin Galvin.

Head Coach Kendel Ross says Morgan Wagg is on the squad after transferring here from Fanshawe, the OCAA silver medalists.

Exciting rookies to watch will be Akuluel Anyoun, a 6'1" athletic post from London, Shelby Bigras, an aggressive 6'0" swing guard and Alicia Maure, a very quick 5'8" guard, both from the Sarnia Area respectively.

Christine Fliescher, a 6'0" power forward will also return to the team who took last year off to concentrate on her co-op placement.
