School board providing final piece for daycare addition

The Lambton Kent District School Board [LKDSB] has agreed to sell a small piece of vacant land on Aberdeen Avenue so a Sarnia daycare can expand.

London Bridge Child Care Service's Early Childhood Learning Centre needs the extra space to build an addition onto its Oak Avenue site.

Co-Executive Director Angela Woodburn said they're adding 49 new child care spaces.

"We're looking at adding an infant room, a toddler room and a preschool room," said Woodburn.

The province announced funding of $1.49 million in May for the additional child care spaces.

"It's an area of the city that is needing support. There's a high demand for childcare," she said. "So, we're working together with the City of Sarnia and County of Lambton in building this addition onto our current building."

Woodburn said they hope to start construction in the spring and open the new spaces in late 2020.

The LKDSB will now work through the Ministry of Education on the land sale.
