Legionnaires nip Vipers in OT

Isaac McLean batted in a loose puck just 1:03 into overtime, powering the Sarnia Legionnaires to a 2-1 win over the visiting LaSalle Vipers in GOJHL hockey play at the Brock St. Barn Thursday.

After the game, McLean said it was a good, character win. "It was a good game. It was nice and close, obviously being an overtime game. It was a good, hard fought game, you couldn't ask for much better in an old barn and small rink. It was a little physical but nothing too crazy, nothing that we couldn't handle."

Legionnaires goalie Jakob Knowles played a great game, stopping 41 of 42 shots against. Will Tragge made 34 saves in his Vipers debut.

The game was scoreless after two periods before Zane Dalpe opened the scoring for LaSalle 14:12 into the third. With the goalie pulled and an extra attacker on the ice, Alec DeKoning tied the game with 1:30 remaining to send it to overtime.

The goal was DeKoning's 11th of the season, he also added an assist on McLean's winner. Ben Schoch picked up a pair of helpers.

The Legionnaires now sit at 6-2-0-1 on the season. Their 13 points puts them in a tie with Leamington for second place in the Western Conference, just four back of the London Nationals.

Sarnia's next contest will be on Saturday in Strathroy. They also play in Leamington the following night.
