St. Clair Township has a contingency plan in place for the upcoming civic election in the event of a Canada Post strike or lockout.
The municipality is one of three in Lambton County using the mail-in voting method for its 11,656 registered voters.
Clerk Jeff Baranek said arrangements are being made in case voters aren't able to use Canada Post.
"In the event that Canada Post does go on strike, if people are unable to mail their ballots back to the civic centre, we will be setting up after-hours drop off locations in all of our built-up areas throughout the township which will be advertised on our website," he said.
Baranek said if there's a postal disruption after ballots are mailed in, residents can go to the civic centre on election day and make sure their votes are in the system.
Brooke-Alvinston and Dawn-Euphemia are also using voting by mail and could be impacted by any work stoppage.
Many other centres are switching to online and telephone voting for the first time this election.
Election day is October 22.
