DeKoning scores four in Legionnaires win

Sarnia Legionnaires captain Alec DeKoning continues to be red hot.

The 20-year-old scored four goals, and now has a GOJHL-best 10 on the season, as the Legionnaires (5-2-0-0) hammered St. Marys (2-6-0-0) 7-3 at the Brock St. Barn Thursday.

DeKoning's 16 points are good for 5th in the league.

Jon Sanderson scored twice for the Legionnaires, while rookie defenceman Brendan Kennette scored his first career goal. Ethan Allair, Clark Allair, and Greg Hay, each dished out two assists.

The Legionnaires led 3-1 after one period, but the Lincolns came back to tie the contest 3-3 in the second. DeKoning scored late in the frame to give the Legionnaires a 4-3 lead after two, and Sarnia would go on to score three more times in the third.

Josh Martin scored twice for the Lincolns, and Blair Butchart had two helpers.

Legionnaires goalie Nolan DeKoning made 33 saves on 36 shots, Kyle Curtin stopped 30 of 37 shots in the Lincolns net.

Sarnia scored three powerplay goals on six chances, and St. Marys capitalized on two of six opportunities.

The Legionnaires are in Chatham on Sunday before hosting the LaSalle Vipers next Thursday night.
