Sarnia library vandals sought

Vandalism at Sarnia Public Library has the property manager feeling defeated.

"It's been happening more often, so it's very frustrating," said Vince Wijsman. "It would be nice to know who these individuals are if it's one person or more. At this point, we don't know."

Wijsman said sometime during the evening between Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16, graffiti was painted on the exterior brickwork on the west side of the building.

He said an attempt was also made to remove copper flashing on the northwest corner and most recently, a washroom was targeted this week.

"The graffiti removal takes a few hours to clean up with some product that they spray on the walls and pressure wash the paint off. But now, the vandalism that's occurred in the washroom, that's probably into a $1,000 range for those repairs," said Wijsman.

Wijsman said a local roofing contractor repaired the damaged copper flashing immediately, at a cost of $300.

Video surveillance was being reviewed in hopes of identifying the person or persons responsible for the damage.
