Council briefs

Putting your garbage and recycling out for collection on the same day next year will come at a price.

Emterra said it will cost the city $66,000 to keep existing collection routes in the next recycling contract, while Marcotte's quoted fee to sync its garbage collection routes with Emterras schedule is almost $510,000.

Sarnia's newly elected council will have to decide if the convenience is worth the extra money at budget time.

The quotes have been referred to the 2019 budget process.

Sarnia council has referred a few funding requests from the Mitton Village Community Development Advisory Committee to the 2019 budget process.

The group is seeking $3,000 in operating costs for community engagement activities and $17,000 in capital costs for streetscape improvements.

The committee, established this past February, was given a $3,000 operating budget for 2018.

An event, featuring cars and live music, is planned October 6 to further engage the community in the project.

City staff are interested in hiring a university graduate student for four months, to analyze Sarnia's current record management practices and develop a plan to transition to digital.

Council has approved the idea in principle and referred the $20,000 cost to the 2019 budget process.
