Alleged pot shop busted

City police have shut down an illegal cannabis dispensary in Sarnia's downtown and have arrested a 27-year-old woman.

Just after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers attended a business on Christina Street, between Cromwell Street and Davis Street.

Police allege marijuana was for sale in plain view and proceeded to place the female employee under arrest.

The execution of a search warrant led to the seizure of marijuana, cannabis resin and marijuana edibles valued at nearly $9,000.

About $130 in Canadian currency was also seized.

Ashley Michelle Walker is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cannabis marijuana, and possession for the purpose of trafficking cannabis resin.

The provincial government is introducing online cannabis sales October 17, and the sale of pot in private stores is expected by April 1, 2019, in municipalities that don't opt out.

In the meantime, Sarnia police say they will continue to enforce the law as it stands.
