'Sock it to Us' campaign kicks off

Sarnia Fire and Rescue collected over 700 pairs of socks in the first day of their "Sock it to Us" campaign.

Firefighters hope to collect 1,000 pairs for the Inn of the Good Shepherd by the time the campaign wraps up at the end of October.

Inn Executive Director Myles Vanni said there's a need for socks for children to adults.

"What people don't often think about is socks. Good clean socks are so important for good footwear," said Vanni. "A lot of our folks are fairly transient, they're at the shelter, maybe they're kind of couch surfing, and they just don't have an extra pair of socks. So this is just a great program that the firefighters have come up with."

Sock donations can be dropped off at the East Street fire hall until October 31, or at Blackburn Radio at 1415 London Rd.
