Sting sign former Greyhound Martin

The Sarnia Sting have signed forward Calvin Martin to an OHL standard player agreement.

Martin was originally drafted 121st overall by the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection.

The Peterborough, Ontario native played in 67 games with the Greyhounds, and suited up for the QMJHL's Val d'Or Foreurs in 28 games this past season.

Martin said he's thrilled to have the opportunity.

“I would like to thank GM Nick Sinclair and the entire Sarnia Sting organization for giving me the opportunity and a fair look at camp," said Martin. "I am very grateful and excited to make the most of this opportunity that the club has given me.”

Martin was able to impress the Sting brass at training camp and found the scoresheet in both of the first two pre-season contests.

Sting GM Nick Sinclair said Martin excelled during camp.

“Calvin came into training camp having to earn his spot on our team," said Sinclair. "He was one of our most impactful forwards in our training camp scrimmages and through the first two exhibition games. Calvin will bring an element of speed and experience to our lineup and we are excited to add him to our current group.”

You can see Martin back in action when the Sting take on the Windsor Spitfires September 14 and 15 in a home and home to finish the pre-season.

The Sarnia Sting's regular season gets underway September 21 in Sault St. Marie. The home opener is set for September 28 versus the Flint Firebirds at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
