SLEP recognized on national level

The Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership (SLEP) continues to receive accolades on a national level.

The organization has been named one of the top ten Canadian economic development groups by Site Selection magazine.

The awards are based on factors like excellence in regional partnerships, proactive and innovative programming, and quality data, web tools, and resources.

SLEP CEO Stephen Thompson said having a county-wide mandate, and focusing on all 11 local municipalities has led to their high ranking.

"I think it is the full suite of programs that we offer as well," said Thompson. "We do have the Business Enterprise Centre that we operate in partnership with the Ontario government. Through that, we work with a range of entrepreneurs, folks that have an idea but maybe don't have a business plan or marketing plan yet. We assist those folks and also work with existing businesses and we work to attract new investments into the area."

Thompson said SLEP is currently working on a new marketing and communications strategy, and business expansion and retention program.

He said he believes being mentioned in Site Selection magazine, for the fifth time in 12 years, could attract more development to the region.
