Salaris New LCDS Director

A longtime employee of Lambton County Developmental Services is set to become the organization's next Executive Director.

Nick Salaris, who has been with the agency for 27 years, is transitioning into the role.

He's taking over for Tom McCallum who is set to retire in December.

The Petrolia-based organization provides services, including day programs and life skills training, to just over 200 people with developmental disabilities across the county.

Salaris says they're facing some challenges moving forward.

Many families are looking after their loved ones at home, but caregivers are also aging.

"It is creating a stress point on the system of supporting people that are aging in their homes," says Salaris. "We recognize that's a dilemma that's going to be facing the province. We're going to do what we can to be a good community partner and try to provide as much support as we can for as many people as we can."

Salaris is also awaiting word on commitments from the newly-elected PC Ontario government.

He says there can be challenges whenever a new government is formed but is hoping funding levels will be maintained.
