'Loonies For Lunches' Brings Healthy Food To School

A program that provides needy kids with healthy food choices is back for its 13th year.

“Loonies for Lunches” back-to-school food drive kicks off August 27 across McDonald's locations in Sarnia.

The two-week campaign helps the Inn of the Good Shepherd stock their shelves with lunch items for the roughly 750 kids that use the food bank every month.

Executive Director Myles Vanni says the program ensures that every child in Sarnia-Lambton has something in their lunch bag when they head to school.

"We know that if kids eat well, and if they got the right nutrition, they're going to learn better at school, they're going to retain information better, and they're behaviour is better. So it's an important process," says Vanni.

Vanni says they typically raise between $5,000 to $8,000 every year.

You can drop off your cash or food donations at the Christina St., Exmouth St. and London Rd. McDonald's locations until September 9.
