30th Anniversary Of Morag Davies Murder

This week marks the 30th anniversary of one of Sarnia's most puzzling unsolved homicides.

Real estate agent Morag Davies was last seen by a visiting co-worker on the night of August 23, 1988. When she failed to show up at work, co-workers returned to her Retlaw Dr. home on August 25 and found the 45-year-old dead of multiple stab wounds in her bedroom.

Sarnia Police Chief Norm Hansen says they never close an unsolved homicide.

"It's always being worked on," says Chief Hansen. "We recently had a detective assigned to it for several months just to refile and review every single report in the case over the years to try to identify some new leads and there actually are some new directions to look at."

The chief has a personal connection to the case.

"I was a fairly new officer then and I was assigned to guard the crime scene that night," says Hansen. "I remember the reality of it actually being a homicide when I was just a young officer."

He's urging the public to help them bring Davies' killer to justice.

"Part of the problem is that the public thinks what they have isn't important or they don't want to point the finger at somebody. But really, all we do when we get a tip is follow it up," says Hansen. "There's no way there's going to be an arrest just because someone made a phone call. But certainly, anything we hear about is helpful."

Police said that DNA samples at the crime scene later cleared both her former husband and a boyfriend.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Staff Sergeant Leo Murphy at 519-344-8861 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
