Trees Knocked Down In Thunderstorm (GALLERY)

A severe thunderstorm with strong wind gusts and heavy rain caused damage in Sarnia late Tuesday afternoon. A tree was knocked down in the area of Bethel Senior Apartments on London Line. A brief but violent storm that rumbled across the city at about 5pm, uprooted a large tree that toppled onto vehicles in the parking lot at Olives restaurant.

No injuries were reported. While a wind gust of 55 km/h was recorded at Chris Hadfield Airport, Environment Canada warned of the potential for higher gusts in a severe thunderstorm watch that was in effect at the time. A moisture-laden weather system with embedded thunderstorms affected much of southern Ontario on Tuesday. Environment Canada reported that, as of 2am Wednesday, 65.4 mm (2.6 inch) of rain had fallen at the Sarnia airport. A fallen tree covers vehicles in the Olives restaurant parking lot.
