Urgent Need For Summer Blood Donors

Canadian Blood Services says about 100 more donors are needed for Tuesday's mobile clinic in Sarnia.

The agency is taking donations from 2:30pm until 7:30pm at the Dante Club.

Spokesperson Stephanie Wilkinson says donating blood is extremely important to help save lives.

"It can take up to 50 donors to help just one person that's been severely injured in a car crash," says Wilkinson. "That's why it's really important that we have full clinics for the remainder of the summer so that we can make sure there's blood on hand for any patient that happens to need it."

Wilkinson says there's a special need for O-negative blood which is a rare, universal donor.

She says demand is usually higher this time of year with an increase in car crashes, and people preoccupied with summer plans.

There's also a clinic scheduled for August 25 at Sarnia Christian School from 9am until noon.
