Elderly Woman Assaulted And Robbed In Her Home

What started as a simple request for a glass of water has ended in an elderly Sarnia woman being attacked and robbed in her own home.

The Sarnia Police Service says on Tuesday between 5pm and 6pm, a man riding a mountain bike approached the elderly woman in her backyard in the area of Mayfair Dr. and Lansdowne Ave., and asked for a glass of water.  She went and got the man some water, and he then asked to use her bathroom.

The woman allowed the man into her home, at which time he assaulted her.  The man left shortly after with some of the woman's personal property.

On Wednesday, the man returned to the home sometime between 8pm and 9pm and knocked on the backyard window.  The woman immediately called the police, but the man was already gone when officers arrived.

The suspect is described as a white male between his late 20s and 40 years of age, clean shaven, with a thin build. He was riding an older style dark-coloured mountain bike, that was possibly red/orange in colour.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Constable Brian Halfpenny at (519) 344-8861 ext. 6213 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
