Ex-NHLers Attend Casino Restaurant Opening (GALLERY)

Three former NHLers were on hand for the grand-opening of the new Gateway Casinos restaurant in Point Edward Thursday afternoon.

Wendel Clark, Dino Ciccarelli and Sarnia Sting Head Coach Derian Hatcher helped cut the ribbon at the Match Eatery and Public House.

Gateway Casinos CEO Tony Santo says it's their first Match Eatery in Ontario and twelfth overall.

He says the view at the Point Edward restaurant is just as good as the food.

"I mean the view is just awesome. We're right here on the St. Clair River looking at the Blue Water Bridge. It's just a great way to spend a night, evening or a nice afternoon like today."

Gateway created a couple of drinks named after Clark and Ciccarelli. All the money made from those two cocktails until July 9 will go to charity.

Ciccarelli says it felt great to be back in Sarnia.

"This is my hometown, and then you got the local flavour here with the NHL being about the Maple Leafs, so why not get a guy like Wendel Clark," says Ciccarelli. "They told us to come on out, hangout, sign some autographs, take some pictures and check out this new facility, which they've done a great job with."

The family-friendly Match Eatery, that employs nearly 100 people, was part of the casino's $26-million renovation to rebrand the Point Edward gaming house as a “Starlight Casino.”
