Homegrown Talent Being Showcased At Alvinston Rodeo

A new rodeo featuring riders from across North America is on in Alvinston this weekend.

The Brooke-Alvinston Agricultural Society and RAW Hide Rodeo have teamed up to present the first ever IPRA sanctioned rodeo Saturday and Sunday behind the Brooke, Alvinston, Inwood Community Complex.

Agricultural Society President Jamie Armstrong says Watford's Tyler Foster and Forest's Rodney Weese are sure to be fan favourites among a field of experienced riders.

"The idea for the rodeo came about because we had two local riders come home from the International Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City with a couple of World Championships under their belt," says Armstrong. "We thought we'd like to showcase them at the local rodeo in Alvinston."

Foster finished first in the Steer Wrestling competition while Weese received the Best Aggregate Award.

The two will be some of the top competitors at the event, but Armstrong says they certainly won't be alone.

"They're expecting cowboys coming in from out West, from Quebec, from down in the States," he says. "So we'll have a top-notch bunch of riders to perform for everybody."

The two-day event will feature a number of rodeo competitions, as well as children activities and a barn dance on Saturday night.
