Mayor Pushes For Public Input In Voting Process

Sarnia's mayor wants 21 days notice given and a statutory public meeting to be held before a council can consider changing its municipal election voting method.

Mike Bradley wants Lambton County Council to recommend the legislative amendments to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs.

"I want to ensure across this province that if people are changing the voting system and it could be, either way, going from paper to electronic or going from electronic back to paper like some communities are doing, that there's a public process," says Bradley. "The citizens in each community has a right to give their input on the most fundamental thing that we deal with, the right to vote and how you vote."

Bradley says changes wouldn't be implemented until the next election.

Mayor Bradley has served notice of motion to be considered at Lambton County Council's next meeting July 4.
