Wyoming Inventor Needs Your Vote

A Wyoming man needs your help in making it to the finals of Princess Auto's "Ultimate Figure-It-Outer" contest.

Jason Cates has made the final 20, selected from 600 entries Canada-wide for his riding lawn roller.

"I built a lawn roller and the guys at work at Enbridge nick-named it 'The Rollinator,'" says Cates. "It's a heavy piece of equipment to roll your lawn in the spring. It's become popular and in the last couple of years, I've probably rolled 30 to 40 lawns in Wyoming and other towns."

Cates says he got his idea from area farmers he would see out in the spring.

"I started looking for parts and once I had enough used parts and parts I bought at Princess Auto, I started building it about three or four years ago. It's been a winter hobby, tinkering away at it," he says.

Cates estimates he spent about $2,500 on used and new parts.

The top three vote-getters by June 22 will travel to Winnipeg in August to compete in a head-to-head build-off competition with $25,000 in prize money up for grabs.
