SIU Investigating Wrong Way Driver Arrest

Ontario's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating after a man was injured while in Ontario Provincial Police custody following a traffic stop on Tuesday morning.

Around 9am, Elgin OPP stopped a vehicle travelling the wrong way on Hwy. 401 near Dutton.

The driver was arrested, and it's alleged he suffered an injury while in custody. He was transported to hospital for medical attention.

Spencer Gosset, 20, of Plympton-Wyoming was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Driving with more than 80 mg of alcohol in the blood
  • Driving while disqualified
  • Refuse to provide a breath sample at roadside
  • Possession of a schedule I substance
  • Possession of a schedule II substance
  • Fail to apply for a permit on becoming the owner
  • Using a plate that is not authorized for a vehicle
  • Failing to remain
  • Operating a motor vehicle without insurance
The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
