Municipal Election Nominations Now Open

Calling all council hopefuls and incumbents, municipal election nominations open Tuesday, May 1.

City Clerk Dianne Gould-Brown says nominations will be accepted until July 27 at 2pm.

"Candidates should bring a Canadian passport or picture ID, a birth certificate would also need an additional piece of picture ID, a drivers license or citizenship card," says Gould-Brown.

A candidate information package can be found here.

Nominations can be filed with the clerk at city hall weekdays from 8:30am to 4:30pm.

Sarnia council consists of nine elected members -- the mayor, four city council members and four city/Lambton County council members.

This will be the first election that paper ballots aren't used.

Residents can vote by telephone or online from October 11 at 9am until October 22 at 8pm.

Gould-Brown says a voter help centre will be set up at city hall from 9am to 4pm on weekdays and Saturdays from 10am to 4pm. Nursing homes and retirement homes will have access to remote voter help centres.

On election day, October 22, city hall will be open as a voter help centre from 9am to 8pm.
