Seniors Cruise At Risk Of Staying Docked

Sarnia's beloved seniors cruise along the St. Clair River is at risk of not setting sail this year.

The annual tradition, which would mark its 40th anniversary this June, was started by former CHOK Hotline host, the late Peter Henderson, and organized by Marni Thomas following his death.

But, Thomas says she's unable to plan this year's event because of her own health.

"I've asked a number of people, that have not got back to me, to see if they would take it over," says Thomas. "I will miss all of the wonderful participants, the sponsors, the Duc D'Orleans and the many volunteers that I've worked with over 30 years with the cruise."

As many as 2,000 seniors have been known to make their way down to the Front St. dock each year, to enjoy a free boat ride, some food and live music.

The event is typically held the last Monday in June.
