Worst Roads Campaign Underway

The Canadian Automobile Association's Worst Roads Campaign is back for the 15th year.

The organization is asking residents to cast their votes for the worst roads in their community.

Spokesman Raymond Chan says the goal is to bring awareness to the three levels of government.

He says issues could include potholes, congestion, or poor traffic light timing.

"Last year, on our regional top five list, Plank Rd. in Sarnia was actually number one in the Southwest Region," says Chan. "The rest of the roads were in the Windsor and Tecumseh areas. In 2016, the worst road on the regional list was Waterworks Rd., followed by Plank Rd., St. Clair Pkwy., and Blackwell Sd. Rd."

Chan says Plank Rd. in Sarnia has been near the top of the regional list for the past few years.

City staff have said a full rebuild of the road isn't likely before 2019. Crews have done some patchwork in the meantime.

Ontarians can nominate as many streets as they like, but the CAA says people cannot vote for the same road, bridge or highway twice.

Voting will continue until April 15 at CAAWorstRoads.com.
