Kyrou Gets 100th Point, Sting Lose To Rangers

Jordan Kyrou picked up his 100th point of the season, but the Sarnia Sting (42-15-4-0) fell 6-3 to the Kitchener Rangers (40-18-2-0) in OHL action Tuesday night at The Aud in Kitchener.

Kyrou, the reigning OHL Player of the Week, dished out an assist on Adam Ruzicka's 34th goal of the season. Hugo Leufvenius and Jonathan Ang also scored for the Sting. Ruzicka had an assist on Leufvenius' goal.

Logan Brown led the way for Kitchener with two goals and two assists, Kole Sherwood scored twice and had an assist, and Givani Smith had three helpers.

Justin Fazio made 21 saves for Sarnia, and Rangers goalie Mario Culina turned aside 35 of the Sting's 38 shots. The Sting converted one of five powerplays and were successful on all three penalty kills.

Kyrou is the first player in the OHL to reach the 100 point mark this season, despite missing nine games to play at the World Junior Hockey Championship. Aaron Luchuk of the Barrie Colts is second with 99 points, and Sault St. Marie's Morgan Frost has 98.

Sarnia is third place in the Western Conference with 88 points, trailing only the Sault Greyhounds (102 points), and the Midwest Division leading Rangers (82 points).

The Sting remain one win away from setting a franchise record for victories in a season with 43. They'll get the chance to obtain the milestone on Friday night in Sault St. Marie. The Owen Sound Attack visit Progressive Auto Sales Arena on Sunday afternoon at 2pm. You can hear all of the action live on CHOK.
