Hughes Comes Up Big: Sarnia Blanks Saginaw 3-0

It was a game of firsts for two Sting players.

Aidan Hughes made 42 saves to pick up career shutout number one in the OHL, and newcomer Mitch Eliot scored his first OHL  goal to help lift Sarnia to the 3-0 win over Saginaw.

The 18-year-old Hughes has appeared in 42 games for the Sting over the last three seasons, including 15 games this season, but this was arguably his best game of his junior career.

The Spirit outshot the Sting 42-31 and they were within 2 goals for most of the night, but the Stings backup goaltender stood tall  and continued to turn away frustrated Saginaw skaters.

As for Eliot, he put Sarnia up 2-0 in the 2nd with a wrister from the faceoff-dot that found the top corner of the Saginaw goal. The former Michigan State Spartan joined the club just over a week ago.

The Sting are in the Soo Saturday night to take on the first place Greyhounds, then they'll return home Monday for an afternoon game against Saginaw.
