Barber Cuts Down Nationals, Legionnaires Win 4-2

Will Barber made an incredible 58 saves to lift the Sarnia Legionnaires (25-14-1-5) to a 4-2 win over the first place London Nationals (32-11-0-2) in GOJHL hockey action Tuesday at the Brock St. Barn. London outshot Sarnia 60-22, including 30-7 in the third period.

Legionnaires forward Alec DeKoning opened the scoring with his 17th goal of the season just 2:19 into the first period, Josh Barraclough and Joey Zappa picked up assists on the play. Jake Vince made it a 2-0 contest nine minutes later, with helpers going to Jarret Marks and Cade Robbins.

The Nationals tied the game up early in the third frame on goals from Carson Brookshaw and Mitchell Webb just two minutes apart. Greg Hay put the Legionnaires back on top 3-2 ten minutes later, and Jon Sanderson sealed the 4-2 victory with an empty-netter. Sanderson also assisted on Hay's goal, while Robbins dished out his second assist of the game.

The Legionnaires sit tied with the St. Thomas Stars for 4th place in the Western Conference with 56 points. The Nationals lead with 66 points, Leamington has 65, and LaSalle has 60.
