Sarnia's Most Crash-Prone Intersections

Sarnia police have released traffic stats from 2017 that identify the city's most crash-prone intersections.

London Rd. and Murphy Rd. had the highest number of collisions. Police investigated 19 at that intersection last year.

The Exmouth St./Murphy Rd. and Indian Rd./Devine St. intersections tied for second with 16 crashes at each.

There were 15 collisions at Exmouth St. and Lambton Mall Rd., and 13 at Exmouth St. and Pontiac Crt.

Constable John Sottosanti says they're not necessarily surprised by the numbers.

"Unfortunately we realize that these intersections have high volume with turning lights, but still the expectation is that people remember these intersections are controlled by the lights and their responsibility is to obey these lights," says Sottosanti. "All these areas are also 50 km/h areas, so that's the speed that we expect people to be travelling at."

In total, officers investigated 1,437 crashes in 2017, an increase of 56 from the previous year. There were three fatal collisions.

Alcohol or drugs were a factor in 30 incidents, 24 involved pedestrians, and cyclists were involved in 23.
