Sign Of Sarnia Sears Demise (VIDEO)

The end of an era in retail is evident for all to see now in Sarnia.

The signs are coming down at the closed Sears store on London Rd.

A pair of workers were on site stripping the familiar, slightly slanted, blue letters from Lambton Mall's facade Wednesday.

The mall says it's looking to breathe new life into the space that occupies the southern end of the property.

Property Manager Laura Beecroft says different options are being considered, like having several smaller tenants or another large anchor store in the space.

An Ontario judge granted Sears Canada permission to liquidate its remaining 130 stores — including Sarnia’s — last October.

The Sarnia store closed January 8.
