Weather Wreaks Havoc On City Water Mains

There have been several more water main breaks in the city Wednesday.

City of Sarnia Operations Manager Bryan Prouse says it's been a busy start to the year.

"Thus far we're at approximately 40 breaks since January 1, and the number keeps increasing," says Prouse. "It's very comparable to a couple years back, in 2014 we had 138 in total and in 2015 we had 132 water main breaks so 2018 is very comparable to a couple of years ago that's for sure."

Prouse says some areas of the city are seeing more problems than others. He says Tuesday alone, they responded to 18 water main breaks, with most of those in the tree streets area.

"We're implementing and repairing as fast as we can," says Prouse. "Please be patient and we will get the water mains back in service and we'd like to thank everyone for their patience, it's a very trying experience and we are doing the best we can."

Prouse says each year they log the water main breaks throughout the winter and crews are assigned in the spring to restore and repair the roads and curbs.
