Tall Ships Could Return To Sarnia

Tall ships could be making their way back to Sarnia's waterfront in 2019. The city is being asked to earmark $40,000 toward the Tall Ships Challenge, August 8 to 12, 2019. They'll be requested to sign a "Port Organizer Agreement" with the American Sail Training Association. Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley says a pair of similar festivals in the past have been successful. However, he says the city wasn't on the hook for the costs like it would be this time around. "I welcome the event, we've talked for years about doing another one," says Bradley. "I want to make sure the taxpayer is protected. If there's a significant deficit, I want to make sure the money is there so it doesn't come back on the taxpayers." Council will consider the matter when it meets Monday.
