Lawrence House Renos Near Completion

Years of renovations to one of the city's oldest homes are almost complete.

Victorian style eavestroughs and downspouts are being installed on Sarnia's historic Lawrence House on Friday.

The new gutters are being put up by a crew from Dorchester that was able to provide a product that most resembled the time period.

It's the last project in a series of repairs to the home, which was built in 1892 and donated to the city in 1977.

$100,000 was spent to repair the slate roof, stained glass windows, interior water damage and restore the classic Victorian front steps in 2016. But that money couldn't cover the cost of this job too, and the Sarnia Heritage Committee had to raise an extra $10,000.

It's hoped the eaves and downspouts will prevent moisture from deteriorating the exterior walls, foundations and interior.

The Lawrence House is a well used art centre in Sarnia's downtown that holds children's programming, small concerts and other exhibitions.
