Brief Christmas Break For Lambton College Students

Lambton College students will be given a one week break for Christmas -- if striking faculty return to work.

President and CEO Judith Morris released a YouTube video with a message to students Thursday afternoon, after 86% of unionized Ontario college employees rejected their employers contract offer.

"Your Deans have been working diligently to develop contingency plans and make sure you have the student services you may need to help you through this difficult time," Morris told students in the video. "Right now, fall semester classes will be extended until Friday, December 22 and will resume on Tuesday, January 2."

Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne said Thursday she would meet with college and union representatives immediately to discuss resolving the nearly five-week job action and get students back to class.

Wynne says she is looking at all options, but is hopeful the parties can reach an agreement.

Professors, instructors, counsellors and librarians at Ontario's 24 colleges went on strike October 15th.

Talks between the colleges and the union broke down on November 4, prompting a request for the final offer vote.
