Students To Rally At Lambton College

Lambton College students will be staging their own rally Friday, November 10 at 1pm at the main entrance on London Rd.

About 10,000 local students are among the half a million others province wide who have been out of the classroom since faculty went on strike October 16.

Kendra Whitney is in her second year of Office Administration-Health Services and says they're not taking one side or another.

"We want to have a voice in this dispute and tell both sides we're not just pawns in this game," says Whitney. "We want to talk about the stress we're dealing with because of this strike. We're worried about losing our semester, we're worried about our future. Some of the students support the faculty while others will be there just to say what effect the strike is having on them."

Faculty, including 205 at Lambton, will begin voting Tuesday, November 14 on a College Employer Council offer that the Ontario Public Service Employees Union is recommending they reject.

OPSEU has said it's virtually guaranteed that students will lose their semester.

Previous college strikes, in 1984, 1989, and 2006, were resolved in roughly three weeks, sparing students a lost academic year.
