Stars Edge Legionnaires In Double OT

The Sarnia Legionnaires (9-7-1-2) were defeated 4-3 in double overtime by the visiting St. Thomas Stars (12-8-0-0) in GOJHL hockey action Thursday night at the Brock St. Barn.

After a scoreless first period, Brock Perry opened the scoring for the Legionnaires with his seventh goal of the season early in the second. Perry jumped into the air to knock down a high puck with his glove, placed it in front of him, and blasted home a heavy slapshot.

Eric Langridge, Ryan Rosborough, and Adam Keyes all scored for the Stars to put them up 3-1 after two periods of play. Keyes' goal came on the powerplay with just six seconds remaining in the frame.

Perry tucked in a powerplay goal of his own, for his second of the night, to cut the lead to 3-2 nine minutes into the third. With four minutes left on the clock, Greg Hay tied the game on rebound from a Matt Stoia point shot that rang off of the crossbar.

Four on four overtime solved nothing, but Curtis Ferreira won the game for the Stars 1:36 into the three on three period.

Alec DeKoning, and Matt Stoia each dished out a pair of assists for the Legionnaires. Jon Sanderson, and Joey Zappa picked up a helper each.

Legionnaires goalie Will Barber stopped 25 of 29 St. Thomas shots. Stars netminder, and Sarnia native, Anthony Hurtubise made 33 saves on 36 shots.

Sarnia is tied for fourth with LaSalle in the Western Conference standings with 21 points, nine back of the first place Leamington Flyers.

The Legionnaires return to action on Saturday, November 11 for a matchup with the Flyers at 7pm at Sarnia Arena. Everyone is encouraged to wear a poppy, and there will be a pregame Remembrance Day ceremony.

You can hear the game live on 103.9FM and 1070AM CHOK.
