‘Operation Impact’ To Target Big Four

Motorists travelling this long holiday weekend are being reminded to drive safe.

OPP have launched ‘Operation Impact’ targeting impaired drivers, speeders, distracted drivers and reminding everyone to buckle up.

Lambton OPP Constable Chris Doupe says there have been 182 fatalities on OPP patrolled roads so far this year, where alcohol or drugs, inattentive driving, speeding or lack of seatbelt use was a factor.

“Distracted driving there were 63 deaths, aggressive driving 56 deaths, impaired driving 32 and lack of seatbelt use 31 deaths,” says Doupe.

He says OPP will be conducting enforcement over the long weekend and raising awareness about these dangerous driving behaviours.

“Those are all avoidable deaths,” says Doupe. “When you get in the car put your seatbelt on, that’s done and drive the speed limit. Don’t drive with alcohol or drugs in your system and put your phone down, it’s that simple.”

‘Operation Impact’ continues through Thanksgiving Monday.
