Solar Power Project Proposed At Chris Hadfield Airport

Sarnia's Chris Hadfield Airport could soon be home to a 500-kW solar power project. Toronto-based company Soventix Canada has applied to Ontario's Independent Electricity System for a small-scale renewable energy generation project in the latest round of the Feed-in Tariff program. Airport Manager Clare Webb says if successful, the company would set up panels on about six acres on the 300 acre site. It would not affect operations. "There would be no reflective problems for aircraft," says Webb. "The funds from land-lease at the airport goes to the contractor responsible for operation of the airport. That how the airport is operated at no cost to the city." Webb hopes to hear if the project proceeds within a month's time.
