Brights Grove Redevelopment Plans To Be Discussed

Redevelopment of the former Crabbies Golf Course in Brights Grove into residential housing will be discussed Monday.

Sarnia council is hosting a public meeting to discuss rezoning and official plan amendment applications.

Mayor Mike Bradley says the Brights Grove Golf Club has proposed an active residential community on the northern portion of the golf course -- between the south extension of Estella, Robert and James Streets and Lakeshore Rd.

"It really is very similar to Huron Oaks in many ways," says Bradley. "It would be the first major development since Huron Oaks in Brights Grove, because we had the issue of sewage capacity which have been resolved now with the lagoons being upgraded at a substantial cost."

Bradley says the plan to build a total of 74 units -- single detached homes and condominiums -- would help address an ongoing demand for new homes.

"It's good to see that there is development occuring in the community and right now there's a struggle out there to find building lots for developers. So, it's all good in that sense."

He says some concerns have been raised about access and increased traffic, so council needs to focus on protecting public interest Monday.

The golf clubs vision, as outlined to council in Monday's report, also contemplates the future re-alignment of the existing 9-hole golf course on the southern portion of the land.
