Speaker Series Focuses On Poverty

Sarnia Speaks returns to the Sarnia Library Auditorium Thursday evening as the speaker series takes a look at the impacts of poverty.

Coordinator Danielle Cooper says in the past they've covered topics like depression, anxiety, resiliency, addiction and diversity.

She says it will be the first time the dialogue focuses on poverty.

"When we first started, we were predominantly focusing on mental health specific [topics]," says Cooper. "As we've grown and as we've had more feedback from people, its become clear that there are a lot of different issues in our community that people are ready and they want to talk about. So, in planning for this year, this was a topic that was very important to people who reached out to us, but also to our planning committee."

Cooper came up with the idea for Sarnia Speaks in the fall of 2015 and the first open dialogue was held the following March in 2016.

The discussion tonight goes from 6:30pm-8pm at the Sarnia Public Library Auditorium on Christina St.
